Yoast SEO is an on-page SEO plugin, while VuloPilot is a WordPress plugin that audits your whole site for SEO, AI search visibility, speed, security and health, then helps you fix issues with your approval. Choose Yoast SEO if you mainly want editor-level writing guidance and are happy with what you have. Choose VuloPilot if you want a site-wide audit, AI visibility and a ranked to-do list across several areas.

Overview

Yoast SEO and VuloPilot in brief

Yoast SEO is the most installed SEO plugin for WordPress, running on more than 10 million sites. It is built around real-time guidance in the editor: a red, orange and green traffic-light system for SEO and readability that tells writers what to improve before they publish.

VuloPilot starts from a different question. Instead of guiding one post at a time, it scans the whole WordPress site, scores six areas including AI search, speed, security and health, and ranks every finding so you know what to fix first. The two overlap on the basics, such as titles, descriptions and sitemaps, and differ on almost everything else.

In depth

How they compare, area by area

On-page SEO and writing

This is Yoast's home ground. Its content analysis checks keyphrase use, readability and inclusive language in 20+ languages, with SERP previews for desktop and mobile. Premium adds up to five keyphrases per post, AI-generated titles and descriptions, and internal linking suggestions. VuloPilot has a per-page SEO panel and readability checks, but writers who want line-by-line coaching will find Yoast deeper here.

Technical SEO

Yoast handles meta tags, canonicals, XML sitemaps and breadcrumbs automatically, with crawl settings to trim what bots fetch. Redirects and IndexNow require Premium. VuloPilot includes redirects, 404 tracking, robots.txt, sitemaps and IndexNow on the free plan, and adds a site-wide audit that ranks technical problems by severity.

AI search

Yoast has moved quickly on AI: llms.txt management and an Abilities API are free, and Premium adds an AI crawler bot blocker and schema aggregation for NLWeb. Its separate AI+ plan adds AI Brand Insights, a weekly web-based report on how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude mention your brand. What Yoast does not do is score each page for GEO and AEO readiness. VuloPilot checks six GEO signals per page, tests answer-readiness, logs AI crawler visits and, on paid plans, tracks citation coverage.

Beyond SEO

Yoast is an SEO plugin and stays focused on SEO. Speed, Core Web Vitals, security, backups, accessibility and WordPress health are outside its scope. VuloPilot covers all of them in the same dashboard, which is the main reason sites run both or switch.

Control and proof

Yoast's AI suggestions wait for your approval before saving. VuloPilot applies the same rule to every change, adds undo from the History page, and re-scans to show whether a fix actually moved the score.

Support and updates

Yoast ships on a two-week release cycle and offers 24/7 support to Premium customers, plus the Yoast SEO Academy. Free users get community support on WordPress.org.

Honest pros and cons

Strengths and trade-offs

Yoast SEO

Pros

  • The most widely used and documented SEO plugin, with a huge community
  • Excellent real-time writing guidance, including inclusive language checks
  • Premium bundles Local, Video and News SEO at no extra cost
  • Fast release cycle and 24/7 Premium support
  • Free llms.txt and an Abilities API for AI tools

Cons

  • Guidance is mostly page by page rather than a whole-site audit
  • Redirects, IndexNow and the AI bot blocker need Premium
  • Premium is licensed per site, which adds up for several sites
  • No speed, security, backup or accessibility checks

VuloPilot

Pros

  • Audits the whole site, not only the post you are editing, and scores six areas from 0 to 100
  • Covers AI search (GEO and AEO), speed, Core Web Vitals, security, backups and accessibility alongside SEO
  • Ranks every finding by severity so you always know what to fix first
  • Propose, preview, approve and undo for every change, then a re-scan proves the fix worked
  • Free plan includes AI search checks, llms.txt editing and AI crawler traffic

Cons

  • It checks social tags but its feature list does not include social (Open Graph) previews, breadcrumbs or local business schema
  • No one-click importer from other SEO plugins is listed, so moving titles and descriptions needs care
  • Newer than the established SEO plugins, with a smaller community and fewer third-party tutorials
  • Requires PHP 8.1 or newer, which some older hosting plans do not offer
Decide

Which one should you choose?

Choose Yoast SEO if you are

  • Writers and editors who want coaching on every post
  • News, video or local businesses that need those Yoast modules
  • Teams that want the most familiar SEO plugin

Choose VuloPilot if you are

  • Owners who want one dashboard for SEO, AI search, speed, security and health
  • Sites that need a ranked, whole-site to-do list rather than per-post tips
  • Anyone who wants proof that a fix worked

Or use both. Both can output SEO settings, so avoid running two plugins that emit the same meta tags and sitemaps. Decide which one owns them.

Switching or combining

How to move from Yoast SEO to VuloPilot safely

  1. 1Decide which plugin will output titles, meta descriptions, sitemaps and schema. Only one should.
  2. 2If VuloPilot will own them, note Yoast's custom titles and descriptions on key pages before switching, since VuloPilot does not list an importer.
  3. 3Turn off Yoast's sitemap and check that VuloPilot's sitemap is live, then resubmit it in Google Search Console.
  4. 4Run a VuloPilot scan and fix anything critical, such as missing titles.
  5. 5If you keep Yoast for writing guidance, turn off VuloPilot's overlapping meta and sitemap output instead.
Questions

VuloPilot vs Yoast SEO: frequently asked questions

They are built for different jobs. Yoast is best at guiding writers post by post. VuloPilot is best at auditing the whole site across SEO, AI search, speed, security and health, and ranking what to fix first. Many sites are better served by choosing based on that, not on a single winner.

Yes, as long as only one of them outputs meta tags, sitemaps and schema. Running two plugins that both print titles and sitemaps creates duplicate tags.

Yes. The free plugin covers on-page analysis, schema, sitemaps, canonicals, breadcrumbs and llms.txt. Yoast SEO Premium is $118.80 a year per site (ex VAT) and adds AI tools, redirects, internal linking and more.

No. Yoast focuses on SEO. VuloPilot includes a speed score, Core Web Vitals, security checks, backups and a WordPress health checkup.

Both publish llms.txt. Yoast adds an AI bot blocker in Premium and tracks brand mentions in AI answers with AI Brand Insights in its AI+ plan; VuloPilot scores each page for GEO and AEO signals, logs AI crawler visits and, on paid plans, tracks whether AI engines cite your pages.

VuloPilot does not list a one-click importer. Note your key titles and descriptions first, or keep Yoast for meta output and use VuloPilot for audits.
